 AN INVITATION TO AN ASTRONOMICAL EVENT 2009

On the 22nd of July 2009, the Moon will cut along the face of the Sun giving rise to an interesting and awesome astronomical phenomenon we all are familiar of as a Total Eclipse of the Sun. 

 

Once again, an astronomical event of this kind will be viewed over the Asian continents running from the western coast of India to the southern isles of Japan in East Asia.  As this event unfolds, slowly but surely the Earths surface where the lunar shadow falls shall undergo a few minutes of total darkness. 

Join us as we travel to experience one of the most awesome phenomenon of nature- 'this Total Solar Eclipse, as well as to experience the sights and sounds of one of the most fascinating countries of Central Asia: INDIA..!

 THE 2009 JULY TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE PROGRAM - ITINERARY (TENTATIVE)  

 

DAY-1       ARRIVE DELHI / INDIA 

                Reception at International Airport/ Proceed to Hotel /

                Rest of the Day is FREE TIME.../  Check out local Planetarium /Science Museums/ etc..

 

 

DAY-2       DELHI – AGRA
                Morning combined city sightseeing Old and New Delhi covering Jama Masjid - The largest mosque in 

                Asia, Red Fort-The red stone magic, Gandhi memorial–The memoir of father of the nation. Sightseeing 

                India Gate - The memorial of martyrs, Parliament House – The govt. head quarters, Humayun Tomb and 

                Qutab Minar.  Later depart by surface to Agra.

                Arrive Agra and check-in to Hotel.

                Overnight hotel.

 

DAY-3       AGRA - JAIPUR
                Morning visit Agra Fort - a visit to the fort in ‘Agra’ is must since so many of the events which lead to the 

                construction of the Taj took place here and visit Taj Mahal built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan in 

                1630 AD.  

                Later drive to Jaipur Enroute visiting Fatehpur Sikri built by Emperor Akbar in 1569 AD. Visit the graceful 

                buildings within the city including Salim Chisti's Tomb, Jama Masjid, Panch Mahal and other palaces.

                Arrive Jaipur check-in to hotel.

                Overnight hotel.

 

DAY-4       JAIPUR – DELHI
                 In the morning take an excursion to Amer Fort with joy ride on an Elephant. Return to the city passing by 

                 Jal Mahal. Followed by city sightseeing of Jaipur visit City Palace – occupies a large area divided into a 

                 series of courtyards, gardens & buildings and a perfect blend of Rajasthani & Mughal architecture, Royal 

                 Observatory – An observatory with some rare qualities to its credit, drive past Hawa Mahal (the Palace of 

                 Winds) – and the Bazaar etc. In evening depart by surface to Delhi.

                 Arrive Delhi and transfer to Hotel.

                 Overnight hotel.

 

DAY-5        In the morning transfer to Airport to board the flight to Bagdogra. On arrival in Bagdogra drive to Siliguri. 

                 Check-in to hotel. Later sightseeing of Siliguri.

                 Overnight at hotel.

 

DAY-6        Today you will be driven to nearby New Jalpaiguri train station to board the "Toy Train" for the 9:00 AM 

                  departure on the scenic ride into Darjeeling where you will be met on arrival at approximately 3.00PM 

                  and taken to the hotel. The train runs on narrow gauge through the mountains and provide superb view 

                  of the valley, tea gardens and settlements along the route.

                  PLEASE NOTE: This train is very unpredictable due to track closures and maintenance so if it does not 

                  operate the day you are there alternative arrangements will be made to get you to your destination.

 

DAY-7        DARJEELING & E-DAY
                 Today you will observe the Solar Eclipse. Depending on the time of Solar Eclipse rest of the day you can 

                 have city tour, including the Zoological Park, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute & Museum, Botanical 

                 Gardens and the Tibetan Refugees Self Help Centre.

 

DAY-8        DARJEELING – BAGDOGRA – DELHI – DEPARTURE
                 After breakfast an early departure for Bagdogra from where you catch the flight to Delhi. On arrival you 

                 will be met and taken to the hotel or similar.

                 Later in the evening transfer to International Airport to board the flight for onward destination.

  • Itinerary will be REVISED pending final confirmation of flight schedules (U.S. - Delhi) / (Revision may 

              include being in the Darjeeling area ONE FULL DAY prior to eclipse event schedule) /
