GATIA, M.Sc. | Independent Contractor-Travel Professional /Tours-Travel Organizer Moving to the United States in early 2003 as an immigrant/resident-alien where he pursued a Masters of Science (MSc) degree in Hotel-Tourism from Madison University (Gulfport, MS), he started his career in the travel-tourism industry as freelance Tour Coordinator-Mountain Guide for the "PALakbayan Tours" Program of Philippine Airlines in the mid-1970s. In support of the country's thrust in promoting adventure tourism in the late 1970s, he became one of the co-founders of the Mountaineering Federation of the Philippines, Inc. in February 1979. Joining the Department of Tourism (DOT) as full time staff of the Bacolod Field Office in May of 1978, he stayed with the Department until his retirement as Operations Officer from government service in July 2003, during which time, he undertook various in-house Trainings and Seminar-Work-shops, has participated in several Tourism & Travel-related Conferences, attended travel oriented Conventions, and other industry-related events and activities. In his stint with the travel and tourism industry for more than 25 years, he has had the opportunity to visit practically almost the entire Philippine archipelago, as well as some travels abroad visiting Kinabalu in East Malaysia; Singapore; Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia); Japan; Thailand; the Republic of China (Taiwan); Mexico; Canada; and Costa Rica. |
